The Delta State Police Command has arrested an Asaba-based content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over allegations that he raped a 20-year-old woman who later died.
The arrest followed a petition submitted to the police alleging that the deceased had travelled from Warri to Asaba after Ogbonna reportedly invited her, promising to assist and mentor her in content creation.
According to the petition, the woman later recorded a video in which she accused the content creator of raping her. She subsequently became critically ill and was reportedly taken for medical attention.
Confirming the arrest in a statement, the Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said the woman later died despite efforts to save her after she allegedly consumed a toxic substance.
Edafe said the suspect has been taken into police custody while detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the allegations and the woman’s death.
He urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from drawing conclusions until investigations are concluded.
The police spokesperson assured that the command would carry out a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable in connection with the case is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
