Josh Grisetti, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Actor and Broadway Star, Dead at 44
Josh Grisetti’s loved ones are finding comfort in the outpouring of support.
After the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel actor died of suicide on July 10 at the age of 44, Grisetti’s family spoke out publicly via a GoFundMe page they created in his honor.
“Our hearts are profoundly broken,” they wrote on the page, which was created three days after his death. “Josh was a luminous force across Broadway, television, film, and academia, leaving an indelible imprint on the global creative community. The extraordinary outpouring of love from Los Angeles, New York, Virginia, and beyond stands as a moving testament to the depth of his impact.”
Grisetti’s loved ones noted they created the fundraising page after many “generously asked” how they could support the late actor’s wife Mackenzie Grisetti and their family.
Any funds raised, they noted, that aren’t “used for the express purpose of bringing closure and managing immediate end-of-life logistics” will be donated to the Entertainment Community Fund, which helps provide mental health services, crisis counseling and support groups tailored to a life in the arts.
“Whether through a contribution, a shared memory in the comments, or keeping us in your thoughts,” the family concluded, “we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
Grisetti’s career occurred onscreen and off, with roles in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Knights of Prosperity in addition to a rich career on the stage.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Grisetti also turned his sights towards teaching, graduating with an MFA in performance pedagogy from Loyola Marymount University and getting a role at Cal State Fullerton.
After his death, Grisetti’s close friend Rob McClure mourned his death by suicide, noting he “wasn’t ready to even attempt to understand.”
“Some of my all-time favorite memories were by this man’s side, playing his brother onstage for years, watching him inspire students while transforming the Musical Theatre program at Cal State Fullerton,” McClure continued in his July 13 post. “And having the honor of being the Best Man at his wedding.”
He continued, “Communities around the world will never be the same without him. We love you Josh. Just a cataclysmic loss.”

Grisetti’s It Shoulda Been You costar Sierra Boggess likewise expressed her deep grief.
“Nothing I can say will make this hurt any less,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a carousel of images with Grisetti. “We all loved him so unbelievably much. He created light and thought and humor everywhere he went. He was a BRILLIANT actor and director and writer. His students are so lucky they had him as their teacher."
"I loved the way he looked at the world and how he challenged ideals and norms," Boggess continued. "I loved his humor and his brain and deep deep philosophical conversations. Our It Should Have Been You family was as close as can be and this is so heartbreaking I will be processing with the show family and all of you for a very long time."
