we can develop a matching fund scheme to support filmmakers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Culture Minister Fadli Zon and his Spanish counterpart, Ernest Urtasun, discussed renewing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on culture to serve as a foundation for developing more joint programmes, particularly in the film sector.
The two ministers met on the sidelines of the International Conference on the Reconstruction of Cultural Sector in Palestine, held in Madrid, Spain, from July 15 to 16.
"We propose easing the co-production scheme for filmmakers from both countries. Additionally, we can develop a matching fund scheme to support filmmakers," Minister Zon said in a statement received here on Thursday.
According to him, the two nations have significant opportunities to expand collaboration in the film industry.
He noted Indonesia's film industry currently produces over 250 films annually, which serves as strong capital for broadening joint productions and strengthening the creative industry networks of both countries.

Zon emphasised that Indonesia remains committed to enhancing its bilateral relations with Spain through cultural diplomacy.
He suggested that cooperation could be further developed through the establishment of cultural centers, enhanced collaboration in cultural heritage preservation, and the implementation of a sustainable joint agenda.
Responding to the proposal, Minister Urtasun expressed his support for strengthening collaboration between Spanish and Indonesia film industries.
He also encouraged increased participation of Indonesian films in various international film festivals held in Spain, including the San Sebastian International Film Festival and the Malaga Film Festival.
"We need to explore opportunities to invite Indonesian films to participate in these festivals. The film sector should become one of the priorities in our bilateral cooperation," Urtasun stated.
