CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Some 250 students across Oriental Mindoro province each received P20,000 in educational assistance on Wednesday under the national government’s “Bawat Bayan Makikinabang” presidential scholarship program.
In a ceremony on Wednesday at the Naujan Sports Complex, Executive Secretary Ralph Recto said the program embodies President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s goal of opening more opportunities for Filipino youth and lightening the financial load of households.

“We want to give more young Filipinos the chance to reach their dreams through education,” Recto said during the awarding of the cheques to the students.
The aid is funded through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) designed to help cover school-related costs and keep learners from stopping their studies.
Recto emphasized that investing in education is central to the administration’s agenda, noting that the President wants every barangay and if possible, every family in the country to produce a graduate because that is the key to rising out of poverty.
The scholarship distribution ran parallel to other LGSF initiatives in the province, including rice assistance and community development works under the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang and Bawat Barangay Makikinabang campaigns.
Governor Humerlito Dolor expressed hope that the cash grant would ease the struggles of beneficiary families and inspire the students to finish their education and contribute to the province’s progress. /jpv
