MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) summoned the operator of a passenger jeepney involved in a road crash in Bataan, the agency said on Thursday.
The LTFRB issued a show-cause order to the operator Dinalupihan-Olongapo Multipurpose Cooperative after the incident injured 18 passengers last July 14 in Barangay Roosevelt.
Citing initial investigation, the agency said that the jeepney hit a bus parked alongside the road before it crashed into a post.

“The penalty is either suspension or cancellation of the franchise. But we have to hear their side first as a matter of due process that we in the LTFRB fully respect,” LTFRB chair Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said in a press release.

The LTFRB said that there is a possible violation of road safety provisions, especially regarding the operator’s commitment to ensure safe travels for the commuters. Mendoza noted that the agency will look into the incident, including the roadworthiness of the vehicle.

“The operator has three days, after the receipt of the SCO, to respond on why its franchise should not be suspended or cancelled. The hearing of the case will be on July 28,” the agency added.
Mendoza then instructed the Regional Franchising and Regulatory Board to assess the status of the victims, and their insurance payments. /cb
