Italy registered 3% excess mortality
among over-65s in June due to heatwaves, the health ministry
said Thursday saying it had been the second hottest June ever.
Analysis of daily mortality surveillance data for over-65s for
the period May 25-June 30, across all cities considered, showed
that "the average excess mortality was limited (3%), also in
comparison to what was observed in other European countries," it
said after heatwave control room meeting.
The data for the period May 25-June 30, the control room added,
highlight both globally and in Europe that June 2026 was "the
second hottest ever."
