Extreme heat drives energy consumption, yearly peak at 57.98 GW

The extreme heat of recent days is

driving energy consumption, which in the last 36 hours has

reached its highest level of the year, grid operator Terna said

Thursday.

According to data reported on the Terna portal, which collects

all demand statistics, yesterday, July 15, the highest hourly

peak demand for 2026 was recorded between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM,

amounting to 57,985 MW.

This figure, provisional and subject to revision, is 4.6% higher

than the 2025 peak of 55,450 MW.
