Tinubu mourns former Aso Villa Chaplain under Obasanjo, Jonathan

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday joined the Christian community in mourning the passing of the Founder and General Overseer of All Christians Fellowship Mission and former Chaplain of the Aso Villa Chapel, the Rev Dr William Okoye.

Tinubu described him as a man of deep faith and principle who served the nation both at the altar and in public life.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended condolences to the family, friends and associates of the cleric and noted his contributions during a pastoral career that straddled religious ministry and national service.

“As a cleric who held several important positions in Christian organisations in Nigeria, Rev Okoye earned the trust and admiration of his followers and the nation beyond the pulpit. He was a strong advocate for unity, patriotism and national development,” the President said.

Tinubu noted that Okoye served as Chaplain of the Aso Villa Chapel under the administrations of Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, during which period he contributed significantly to the spiritual growth and welfare of Christians in the presidential precinct.

The President said beyond the pulpit, Okoye had served in several national institutions, including as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Youth Affairs, the National Political Reform Conference and the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission.

“Rev Okoye dedicated himself to building a better society,” he said.

The President therefore prayed for the eternal repose of the soul of the cleric and asked God to grant comfort and strength to his family, the ACFM and all who mourn his passing.
