Celebrity Deaths 2026: Catherine O’Hara, Eric Dane & More Fallen Stars
The Kardashian family is in mourning.
Kim Kardashian shared a heartbreaking tribute to her grandma Mary Jo "MJ" Shannon, who died on July 16 at age 91.
"My sweet Grandma MJ, my best friend, my gossip buddy, my forever twin," she wrote on Instagram. "You taught all of us the importance of family, and those values are something we’ll carry with us forever!!!!! You were the woman who showed me what it meant to be a hardworking businesswoman."
Recalling how she spent her teenage years working at MJ's children's clothing store, the Kardashians star continued, "You were the woman who showed me what it meant to be a hardworking businesswoman."
"You always believed in me, championed me, and were my safe place," Kim shared. "You truly were the matriarch of our family, and your love is woven into all of us. I know you’re at peace now."
The SKIMS founder ended her tribute with a loving nod to other late family members, including grandpa Harry Shannon, dad Robert Kardashian and aunt Karen Houghton, who died in 2024 at 65.
“When I look at my kids and my grandkids, I will forever see pieces of you in all of us,” the momager shared. “And if I have done anything right in this world, it’s because I spent my life trying to live in a way that would make you proud. Every memory, every moment, every blessing, it was all because of you, and I will forever thank God every single day for making you my mommy.”
While Kris admitted her "heart is broken into a million pieces" over the loss, she's grateful for MJ providing her with the "greatest childhood" and a "beautiful blessed life."
“I love you forever Mommy," she added. "Thank you for giving us everything.”

“She taught us that family is everything," she wrote in a lengthy Instagram post. "She showed us how to love unconditionally and how to find joy in the little moments. She showed me how to face life’s challenges with resilience and faith.”
The 70-year-old continued, "Our hearts are broken, but we find comfort knowing that love like yours never truly leaves us. Your love will live on in our family, in our traditions, in every moment we are together, and in every life you touched."
That's because Kris said there "is not a part of me that isn’t shaped by" MJ, who married her late dad Robert True "Bob" Houghton in 1954.
