Meg Stalter made her Broadway debut with Oh, Mary! last week but has been absent during recent performances.
Addressing rumors on social media, Stalter opened up about the reason she has not been on stage.
“I’m so sad to have missed @ohmaryplay shows this week as I’m very very sick with bronchitis,” Stalter shared in an Instagram post. “We are hoping not pneumonia!”
In her absence, Hannah Solow and Jackie Sanders have been performing in the role of Mary Todd Lincoln and Mary’s Chaperone, respectively. Stalter noted that Solow and Sanders are “incredible” and called them the “world’s most talented,” adding they “stepped in to give you the BEST SHOW!!”
The “Prettiest Girl in America” singer also took the opportunity to shut down rumors she was at a comedy cellar.
“There’s a whole thread on Reddit I guess about how people think I was at the comedy cellar and I’d just like to go on record saying I was not at the comedy cellar,” she explained. “I’m very sick and have no voice but doing everything I can to be back in the shows this weekend. love you forever stop saying I was at the comedy cellar please.”
Stalter’s post featured multiple photos of herself holding a glass as she recovers, and in a response to her own post, she added, “Drinking Pedialyte and on a lot of medication in this pic.”
The Emmy-nominated star made her Oh, Mary! and Broadway debut at the Lyceum Theatre on July 6, and she is set to continue performing through September 12. Written by Cole Escola and directed by Sam Pinkleton, Oh, Mary! is a dark comedy that revolves around Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. The play reimagines the former First Lady as a hard-drinking woman yearning to become a cabaret star.
