Seth Rogen Details "Nuanced" Personal Side of James Franco Fallout
Seth Rogen was superbad at playing it cool with Penélope Cruz.
The Pineapple Express actor admitted "it was crazy" to film sex scenes with the Oscar winner for their new movie The Invite, revealing that he kept thanking and apologizing to his costar.
"What's actually funny in the scene is we were encouraged to improvise," Rogen said on the July 15 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!. "There's a scene where me and her are having a romantically charged moment and it seems like we might hook up with one another, and I just kept saying 'Thank you.'"
"And Olivia Wilde, the director, was just like, 'Why? What are you doing? Why do you keep saying 'Thank you'?" he recalled. "And I was like, 'I don't [know]. It's just what's coming out of my mouth.'"
As Rogen explained, if he was in that situation IRL, "All I have is gratitude."
"I would be apologetic and thankful," he added. "I'm sorry."
Rogen—who has been married to Lauren Miller since 2011—also confessed he was a little worried about how Cruz's husband Javier Bardem would react to their steamy scenes.
"So, you're very worried about that," he said, though he added with a laugh, "I don't think he views me as a legitimate threat in any way, shape or form."

For her part, Cruz also improvised when it came to their onscreen chemistry, with Rogen noting that she spontaneously decided to perform Sade in the film.
"It was Penélope Cruz's idea," he shared. "There's a scene where we're being romantic and she was like, 'What if I start singing Sade to you?' which is sort of sexy, but also kind of hilarious at the same time."
Rogen then added his own twist, explaining, "It's funny if I'm trying to get my pants off and maybe I struggle and I fall down in the scene. And I did it. Everyone's like, 'That was great.'"
But it wasn't so great for the comedian, who quipped, "And then I hurt my shoulder for seven months."
