Gun alert in Wellington leads police to burglary suspect

Police have arrested a man following an alleged burglary in Wellington.

Officers were called to a commercial premises on Wakefield Street about 1.50pm, a police spokesperson said.

"During the incident, the man has allegedly shown a concealed firearm before leaving the area.

"The man was located on Kent Terrace a short time later."

They said an "imitation firearm" as well as discarded clothing was found in a search of the surrounding area.

"Armed staff were in attendance as a precaution."
