Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has sought Mexico's support for Indonesia's bid to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
"Indonesia is currently in the process of acceding to the CPTPP and believes that support from all members, including Mexico, plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth process, given the consensus-based nature of the agreement," Hartarto said in a statement released here on Thursday.
During a recent meeting with Mexican Ambassador to Indonesia Francisco de la Torre Galindo, the minister shared updates on Indonesia's accession progress.
It included the commencement of preparation discussions, which was formally agreed upon at the 10th CPTPP Ministerial Meeting in Vietnam on June 26, 2026 and served as significant milestone for Indonesia’s accession.
Hartarto reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to a transparent and constructive accession process that strictly adheres to the high standards set by the CPTPP.
Beyond the trade bloc, the two officials discussed positive trends in bilateral trade and investment. Bilateral trade between Indonesia and Mexico reached approximately US$3.5 billion in 2025, marking a significant year-on-year increase.
Both sides acknowledged the vast opportunities that remain to expand economic cooperation and strengthen business-to-business partnerships.
They also exchanged views on ways to deepen bilateral ties, including the exploration of a more comprehensive economic partnership in the future.
Indonesia and Mexico agreed to foster intensive dialogue to cultivate a more conducive and mutually beneficial climate for investors.
Ambassador Galindo highlighted the immense potential to further develop economic ties between the two nations.
"There is abundant potential for collaboration between Indonesia and Mexico. Therefore, we invite Indonesian entrepreneurs to invest in Mexico and seize these opportunities," the ambassador stated.
