Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto departed Jakarta for Malang District, East Java, on Friday to mark the start of a mass harvest event for rice, sugarcane, and soybeans cultivated by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).
He took off aboard the presidential aircraft from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta at noon, accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Minister Nusron Wahid, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
“Mr. President will lead simultaneous harvests of sugarcane, rice, and soybeans at 43 locations across Indonesia. This event reflects TNI’s contribution to advancing the national food self-sufficiency agenda,” Secretary Wijaya said in Jakarta.
Upon arriving in Malang, he continued, President Prabowo will head directly to the harvest kick-off venue, an integrated zone of rice fields and plantations within the Abdulrachman Saleh Air Base complex.
Wijaya explained that the president is scheduled to oversee harvest activities involving personnel from all three TNI branches, with the Army harvesting rice at 31 locations, the Air Force harvesting sugarcane in eight areas, and the Navy harvesting soybeans at four sites.
He added that Prabowo is also scheduled to view kiosks or booths displaying yields from military initiatives supporting government priority programs, including efforts to add value to farm commodities through the natural resource downstreaming drive.
According to him, the head of state will review a range of products, including food commodities, sugar, and derivatives from sugarcane such as bioethanol and ethanol-based industrial goods.
Furthermore, Prabowo will visit booths showcasing the adoption of modern farming technology.
“Through this activity, President Prabowo aims to ensure an integrated approach to strengthening the food sector, highlighting measures to boost production, assist farmers, and implement downstreaming to generate added value and improve people’s welfare,” Wijaya concluded.
