Jakarta (ANTARA) -
The government has prepared contingency measures, including evacuation plans, for Indonesian migrant workers in the Middle East amid rising security tensions in the region.
"We are coordinating with our embassies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs because this involves the authorities of other countries," Minister for the Protection of Migrant Workers Mukhtarudin said after a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Friday.
In addition to Iran, the government is also monitoring developments across the Middle East.
According to the minister, several Indonesian embassies have issued advisories urging Indonesian citizens to remain vigilant following the deteriorating security situation in the region.
"Particularly in Abu Dhabi and the surrounding areas, the Indonesian Embassy has issued advisories urging citizens to remain vigilant and be prepared for any eventuality," he said.
Mukhtarudin emphasized that the government has prepared various contingency measures should the situation worsen, including large-scale evacuation scenarios for Indonesian citizens in the region.
"In principle, the government has coordinated for contingency measures in the event of an extraordinary situation that requires large-scale evacuations or other major emergency response for Indonesian citizens there, including migrant workers in the Middle East," he said.
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated since February, following a joint US and Israeli military offensive against Iranian targets.
In response, Tehran launched missile and drone strikes targeting US military assets hosted by several Gulf countries.
Last month, Iran and the United States signed a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ending hostilities and establish a framework for long-term peace.
However, tensions have intensified once again in recent days over a dispute regarding the Strait of Hormuz, triggering a fresh round of retaliatory strikes between both sides.
