The 4G network enhances access to education, health, and government services in these rural communities.
Nepal Telecom (NTC) has launched 4G services in Sorukot, ward no 6 of Soru Rural Municipality in Mugu district, and in Bichhyako Neta, ward no 1, and Kuwadi areas of ward no 5. According to the company, these are the most remote rural areas in the Himalayan Rural Municipality.
The service was launched in the presence of the local-level representatives, representatives of the government bodies, and technical staff of NT. Many locals also participated in the event that saw the formal launch of the next-generation cellular technology in the area.
At the program, Soru Rural Municipality Chairman Dharma Bahadur Shahi and Vice Chairman Keshar Bahadur Shahi emphasized the importance of 4G. They called the 4G expansion in the area a historic achievement for local citizens and expressed their commitment to provide necessary coordination and support for the sustainable operation, protection, and capacity expansion of the service as per the needs.
As of now, NTC 4G coverage has reached about 99% of local levels. The company seeks to reach nationwide coverage by the end of 2083.
NTC 4G arrives in Bichhyako Neta and villages around Kuwadi River
NTC has installed a 4G tower in Bichhyako Neta to beam 4G signals. The network provides coverage to the monasteries, including Kot, Neta, Bam, Boudi, Yuna, and Natikhola, i.e., the trekking route from Bajura to Ranisain. Similarly, the coverage also reaches the villages at the confluence of the Kuwadi River and the route to Humla-Tanjakot 2.
The benefits are, of course, in leaps and bounds. Access to 4G means that local residents can now enjoy high-speed mobile internet. They can also use NTC VoLTE for HD voice and utilize SMS services as well. Further, NTC says that the technology helps with local economic and social development. The high-speed network makes access to information, education, health, and government services easier for the residents.
NTC is continuing its 4G expansion, being the ‘Communication of the Nation’. The company says that it remains fully committed to providing access to cutting-edge telecommunications services and information technology from accessible to the most remote places in the country.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
