Four people have been charged following an assault outside a Southland hotel.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Baird said the alleged attack happened just before midnight on 27 June in Mataura.
The group were arrested during a series of property searches on 3 July, with the help of CCTV footage from the assault.
"Police staff, assisted by the Armed Offenders Squad, executed a number of search warrants in Mataura," Baird said.
Three men, aged 34, 20 and 21, and a 19-year-old woman are due to reappear in the Gore District Court on 5 August.
The group face charges including assault with intent to injure and injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The 34-year-old man has been remanded in custody, police said.
They wanted to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault or had any footage.
"We want to make it known that this type of violent offending will not be tolerated in the community, and that the offenders will be held to account," Baird said.
