A 15-year-old boy was electrocuted at
an amusement park near Savona on the LIgurian Riviera on
Thursday night, sources said Friday.
The boy died late yesterday evening at the Savona hospital after
being electrocuted in an area of the Spotorno amusement park.
The alarm was raised around 11:00 PM.
Volunteers from the Spotorno White Cross and the Savona 118
emergency medical car responded to the scene.
The boy was transported in critical condition to the San Paolo
Hospital in Savona, where doctors attempted resuscitation for
over two hours, but to no avail.
Investigations are underway.
The victim is a young man from Saronno near Milan, who was
vacationing in the seaside town.
According to initial investigations, the boy was struck by an
electric shock while using the "Calciometro," a game in which
participants measure the force of their kicks on a soccer ball.
A downpour had hit the area shortly before the incident, and one
theory under consideration is that the water reached the
facility's electrical control unit.
Before kicking the ball, the boy apparently removed one of his
shoes to kick barefoot and was electrocuted when he came into
contact with part of the structure.
Following an inspection by the Savona fire department, Mayor
Mattia Fiorini issued an order closing the amusement park and
allowing necessary checks to be carried out on the attractions'
electrical systems and grounding systems.
The boy lived with his parents in Saronno (Varese), and his
mother works for a service company.
"This is a tragedy that should never happen," said Saronno Mayor
Ilaria Pagani.
"There are no words to alleviate the suffering of his family, to
whom we extend our deepest sympathy, as well as his friends, his
classmates, and all those who loved him."
News of the tragedy quickly spread on social media, with
numerous messages of condolence.
"As the municipal administration, we wanted to issue a statement
immediately," the mayor added.
"At times like this, Saronno gathers respectfully around its
fellow citizens, in silence and closeness, keeping our thoughts
close to a family facing the most difficult of trials."
