Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has revealed that Indonesia will soon have a national electric motorcycle as part of efforts to strengthen the domestic automotive industry while promoting the use of environmentally friendly vehicles.
In his speech at the "TNI (Indonesian Military) Harvest Festival in Support of the Food Security Program" at Abdulrachman Saleh Air Force Base, Malang, East Java, on Friday, Prabowo said the launch of the national electric motorcycle would take place within the next few weeks.
"Soon, we will have a national motorcycle. I will launch the national electric motorcycle in the next few weeks," Prabowo said, as monitored through a broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat.
Prabowo expressed hope that the national electric motorcycle could be widely utilized by the public, including farmers, as a more efficient and affordable means of transportation.
Additionally, he noted that the government aims to manufacture a domestic automobile developed by local talent, a move intended to bolster the capacity of the country's manufacturing sector.
"We will have motorcycles made by Indonesian talents. We will have cars made by Indonesian talents," he stressed.
According to him, the development of national vehicles is part of the government's optimism in realizing Indonesia as a developed and prosperous country through improving national industrial capabilities.
Furthermore, he emphasized that Indonesia has the resources and capabilities to build a competitive industry capable of producing strategic domestically made products.
"We are optimistic. We set our aspirations as high as the sky. Indonesia will become a prosperous country," Prabowo declared.
To support the electric vehicle ecosystem, previously, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said that the government will introduce incentives for electric vehicles to reduce fuel imports.
He said the government is preparing subsidies for 100,000 electric cars and 100,000 electric motorcycles this year.
