Convicted jeweler's wife files request for pardon

Also asks that execution of sentence for Mario Roggero be delayed

The wife of a 72-year-old Italian

jeweler sentenced to 14 years and nine months in jail for

shooting dead two fleeing robbers outside his shop near Cuneo in

2021 on Friday filed a request for him to be granted a

presidential pardon.

The woman, Mariangela Sandrone, also asked for the execution of

his sentence to be postponed.

The man, Mario Roggero, headed for prison Friday after his

detention order was issued.

Right-wing parties are lobbying hard for him to be pardoned

saying he acted in self-defence.

The appeals court verdict confirmed by the supreme court

Wednesday said he had executed the two men on the ground after

they were leaving his store.

The sentence also said Roggero had violent tendencies as

evidenced by his threatening his daughter's boyfriend with a gun

in 2005.
