AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Game Wardens and the Texas Department of Public Safety teamed up to rescue people from flood waters in Uvalde County Thursday morning.
The Texas Game Wardens posted a video filmed from inside a helicopter while a person, who appeared to be a child, was hoisted into the helicopter and away from floodwaters.
Texas Game Wardens shared several other videos with media outlets, two of which appear to show children being rescued from flood waters and lifted into a helicopter. The children’s faces were blurred in the videos.
In one of the videos, a game warden can be heard saying, “It’s a child, we’re bringing her in.”
“This morning, a crew made up of a Texas Game Warden helicopter, pilot and rescue swimmer and a Texas Department of Public Safety hoist operator conducted hoist rescues in Uvalde County,” Texas Game Wardens said in the post. “When it comes to protecting our fellow Texans, the patch we wear doesn’t matter — it’s the teamwork that counts.”
The Texas Game Wardens said in a press release that they’d been deployed to eight different counties so far, where they’ve conducted 147 rescues, 83 evacuations, and five pet/animal evacuations as of 3 p.m. Thursday.
Game wardens responded to calls for service, including residents who needed rescue and evacuation from flooded homes, vehicles submerged in floodwater, and vehicles swept off roadways. Those ongoing responses have been conducted by boat, ground vehicle, helicopter, and with drone support, according to the release.
