Residents and visitors will have the chance to learn life-saving CPR skills at a free Basic Life Support (BLS) training event in Albufeira next month.
Organised by Albufeira Municipal Council as part of the Municipal Day celebrations, the Mass Training event will take place at Praça dos Pescadores on Thursday, August 20, giving members of the public practical guidance on how to respond in the crucial first minutes of a medical emergency.
The afternoon begins at 3pm with an exhibition showcasing the vehicles, equipment and personnel of the municipality’s Civil Protection services and partner emergency organisations.
At 5pm, participants will take part in a hands-on training session covering the essentials of Basic Life Support, including how to recognise a cardiac arrest, alert the emergency services and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until professional help arrives.
The session is designed to give participants the confidence to intervene safely during an emergency and will include Portuguese Sign Language interpretation to make the training more accessible.
The initiative brings together the Municipal Civil Protection Service, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), Albufeira Volunteer Firefighters, the Portuguese Red Cross (Silves-Albufeira branch), the GNR, the National Maritime Authority, the Maritime Police, the Municipal Police, the Albufeira Lifeguards Association and EuroService, whose representatives will also be available to answer questions and demonstrate emergency procedures.
Participation is free, but places must be booked in advance. Registration is open until August 7.
