The Kaiama Development Association (KDA) has formally rejected what it described as the imposition of Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Kaiama/Baruten Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by the President of KDA, Alhaji Yakubu Salihu; the Secretary-General, Aminu Mohammed Umar; and the association’s Publicity Secretary, Dr. Hussein Yahaya, and addressed to the Chairman of the APC Reconciliation Committee in Ilorin, the association said the decision to endorse the lawmaker was made without consulting key stakeholders, including ward leaders, traditional rulers, youth and women groups, and development associations across Kaiama and Baruten Local Government Areas.
According to the association, the process lacked legitimacy because it neither involved party primaries nor a consensus arrangement as provided for under the APC’s constitution. KDA maintained that it does not recognize the process or accept its outcome.
The association also questioned Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed’s legislative record, alleging that despite serving for more than seven years in the Kwara State House of Assembly, he has not sponsored any bill or moved any motion on the floor of the Assembly.

It argued that such a record raises concerns about his capacity to provide effective representation at the National Assembly.
KDA further accused the lawmaker of poor constituency representation, alleging that he has neither facilitated empowerment programmes nor attracted meaningful infrastructural projects to his constituency during his tenure.
The statement also criticized what it described as the lawmaker’s response to the February 3, 2026 Woro attack, in which the association said more than 100 people were killed while 176 others were abducted.
According to KDA, Hon. Saidu neither visited the affected community to sympathize with victims and their families, nor provided relief materials or raised the incident on the floor of the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Another major concern raised by the association was what it described as a communication barrier.
KDA alleged that the lawmaker lacks sufficient proficiency in English, Nigeria’s official language, and is also unable to communicate in either Boko-Baru or Batonu—the two indigenous languages predominantly spoken across Kaiama and Baruten Local Government Areas.
The association argued that the inability to communicate effectively in both the official language of legislative business and the native languages of the constituency would undermine effective representation.
As part of its demands, KDA called on the APC national and Kwara State leadership to immediately nullify the alleged imposition and instead engage traditional institutions, elders, youths, women, and development associations to produce an acceptable consensus candidate, noting that the period for party primaries has already elapsed.
The association warned that it would mobilize all lawful political, legal, and civic measures to oppose the decision, insisting that any representative not chosen through an acceptable process lacks legitimacy.
While reaffirming its commitment to peace, KDA maintained that lasting peace can only be achieved through justice, fairness, and respect for democratic principles.
