Jack Hughes Details Navigating Interest in His Personal Life Amid Rumored Romance With Tate McRae
Jack Hughes is keeping details about his personal life in a neutral zone.
Months after the New Jersey Devils player and Tate McRae were first linked, he addressed how he navigates newfound interest in what he does off the ice.
“I’m a pretty normal guy,” Hughes told E! News in an exclusive interview at the TIME100 Sports Gala July 16. “I’m just doing my thing—hanging with my family, my friends. Being who I am and that’s about it.”
And while the NHL player—who was honored alongside fellow athletes like Jalen Brunson, Alysa Liu and LeBron James at the event—wasn’t spilling any details about his possible romance with the “Tit for Tat” singer, he shared a bit of insight into how he’s enjoying the offseason.
“So many rounds of golf, honestly,” the 25-year-old mused, reiterating that he’s spent a lot of time with his close knit circle. “The Fourth of July was awesome back home. I’m lucky I’ve had a great summer and now it’s time to get back at it.”
Indeed, the Orlando, Florida, native admitted he’s going to have to “ramp it up” ahead of NHL season officially commencing in September.
“Just getting back on the ice and grinding and doing what I’ve done for years,” Hughes added. “I’m excited for next year and going to be fun and get back at it.”
As for the interest in what’s heating up for Hughes off the ice? The hockey star began sparking dating rumors with McRae back in December, when the duo stepped out for a walk in New York City after the “Greedy” singer attended one of his hockey games earlier that same month.
Ever since, the duo has stepped out together periodically—and while multiple outlets reported in March that they are in a relationship, they have yet to confirm themselves.

Although he’s not sharing any details on his hockey love story, Hughes admitted he’s excited about the newfound interest in his sport thanks to breakout rom-com shows Heated Rivalry and Off Campus.
“I know people really enjoy them,” Hughes explained, “and maybe it’s ‘cause the hockey market is not that tapped into yet.”
And while the Olympian hasn’t seen the new series himself, he expressed gratitude for the attention they’re bringing to the game.
“I know fans obviously love ‘em,” he added. “So, it’s pretty cool for the game.”
