
MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson asserted on Saturday that China’s racist portrayals of Filipinos reveal more about China’s own character than that of the Filipino people.
This comes after China Daily — a state-run media outlet — released an AI-generated video belittling the 2016 Arbitral Award, depicting Filipinos as monkeys.
“If they see Filipinos as monkeys, then what are they, if behavior and character are the standard?” Lacson said in a statement.

The aforementioned video is only one of several other content from China Daily dismissing the international arbitration award that declared China’s historical claims over the West Philippine Sea invalid.
Lacson previously noted that Chinese Coast Guard’s continuous aggression against Philippine vessels only “reinforced” international support for the Philippines.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has also condemned China’s video, filing a formal diplomatic protest and calling the content “blatantly demeaning, dehumanizing and racist.” /das
