A 36-year-old man from Msida is at risk of dying after the car he was driving crashed into a tree in Floriana early this morning.
Police were called to Triq Nazzjonali at around 2am, where preliminary investigations found that the man had lost control of his Ford Kuga before colliding with a tree.
Members of the Civil Protection Department and a medical team from Mater Dei Hospital assisted at the scene before the driver was taken to hospital by ambulance.
He was later certified as suffering from serious injuries.
Magistrate Monica Borg Galea has opened an inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing.
