
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported two earthquakes that hit Balut Island, Sarangani at separate times early Saturday, July 18.
At 12:12 a.m, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake jolted 10 kilometers southwest of Balut Island. It has a depth of 17 kilometers, according to Phivolcs.

Earlier, at 10:23 a.m, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake also struck only 102 kilometers from the same location.

Phivolcs said both earthquakes are aftershocks from the 7.8 magnitude quake off Sarangani and the 6.5 magnitude quake off Davao Occidental.
The 5.5 magnitude quake reported intensities over the following areas:
Intensity IV – City of General Santos; Malapatan and Glan, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental
Intensity III – Kiamba and Maasim, Sarangani; Sarangani, Davao Occidental
Intensity II – Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat; City of Kidapawan and Makilala, Cotabato; Don Marcelino and Malita, Davao Occidental
Intensity I – Bagumbayan, City of Tacurong, Isulan, and Lebak, Sultan Kudarat; Santa Maria, Davao Occidental
Phivolcs also recorded the following instrumental intensities:
Intensity IV – City of General Santos; Malapatan, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato
Intensity III – Malungon and Kiamba, Sarangani; TBoli, South Cotabato; Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat; Santa Maria and Sarangani, Davao Occidental
Intensity II – City of Kidapawan, Cotabato; City of Digos and Magsaysay, Davao del Sur Maitum, Sarangani; Tampakan, South Cotabato
Intensity I – Banga, Surallah, and Santo Nino, South Cotabato; Kalamansig, Isulan, and Lebak, Sultan Kudarat; City of Davao
