Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto invited two Chinese technology companies, Huawei and ByteDance, to strengthen cooperation in the digital sector by leveraging their expertise to support Indonesia's digital transformation.
In a press release received on Saturday, Airlangga said that Huawei possesses world-class capabilities in telecommunications infrastructure, cloud computing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
"Meanwhile, ByteDance is a tech giant that has developed some of the world's most popular digital platforms, including TikTok, CapCut, Lark, Toutiao, and Douyin," he added.
During his meeting with Huawei, he described the company as a strategic partner with the potential to accelerate Indonesia's digital transformation.
He said the discussions focused on four key areas of cooperation: investment in AI and cloud infrastructure, strengthening the digital talent and cybersecurity ecosystem, accelerating the digitalization of government services and MSMEs, and implementing green energy solutions in data centers.
According to him, as one of the founding members of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), Indonesia seeks to ensure tangible progress in technological cooperation.
"Huawei, with its capabilities in AI, telecommunications infrastructure, and cloud computing, is a vital strategic partner in supporting our national digital transformation," Airlangga remarked.
Meanwhile, during his meeting with ByteDance, he expressed appreciation for the company's strategic investment and long-term commitment to Indonesia, particularly through Tokopedia and TikTok Shop, which have contributed to the country's digital commerce ecosystem.
"ByteDance's presence not only strengthens the digital economy ecosystem but also creates broader opportunities for millions of MSMEs to grow through digital platforms and cross-border trade," he said.
The Indonesian government also seeks to expand collaboration with ByteDance to help local MSME products reach wider international markets.
In addition, Airlangga invited ByteDance to explore cooperation in AI, including Large Language Models (LLMs), machine learning, and generative AI.
The minister highlighted that Indonesia has a massive digital market, a growing pool of digital talent, and a strong commitment to building an inclusive AI ecosystem.
"We invite ByteDance to explore opportunities to establish an AI research center, develop digital talent, and collaborate on innovations that can benefit both nations," he said.
This series of business meetings is part of the Indonesian government's economic diplomacy aimed at attracting high-value investments.
The agenda was held on the sidelines of Minister Airlangga's working visit to Shanghai, China, to sign an agreement on establishing the WAICO, which took place on Thursday (July 16).
