Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, on Saturday set politics aside as they attended the Fidau prayer for the late Sidikat Basiru, mother of the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, in Osogbo.
The prayer, held at Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo, attracted prominent political figures from across party lines, but the presence of Adeleke and Oyebamiji, who are expected to face each other in the August 15 governorship election, became the highlight of the event.
Photographs and videos from the gathering, which circulated on social media, showed Adeleke and Oyebamiji exchanging pleasantries, drawing admiration from many attendees.
The two politicians have maintained a frosty relationship since emerging as governorship candidates of their respective parties, frequently trading criticisms over governance and political issues.
Other dignitaries at the event included Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu.
Former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande; former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Grace Titi Laoye-Tomori; former Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole; and the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, also attended.

Delivering a sermon at the Fidau, the Mufasir of Osogbo, Sheikh Abdulateef Abajaoro, reminded the congregation of the inevitability of death and urged people to live righteous lives.
“Every human being will die,” he said, adding that wealth, influence, authority and positions would all come to an end after death.
According to him, only three things continue to benefit a deceased person: beneficial knowledge left behind, charity that continues to serve humanity and prayers offered by righteous children.
PUNCH Online had earlier reported the death of Alhaja Sidikat Basiru, mother of the APC National Secretary.
Her death was announced in a statement by the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, who described her passing as a painful loss to her family and all who benefited from her exemplary life.
