The Benue State Government, on Thursday, flagged off sales of fertiliser to farmers at a subsidised rate of N28,000 per bag for this year’s cropping season.
Governor Hyacinth Alia, who flagged off the exercise in Makurdi, announced a 50 per cent subsidy on fertiliser and the expansion of agricultural input distribution to all 23 local government areas of the state.
He said that the launch of the 2026 Fertiliser and Farm Inputs Sales and Distribution Exercise would enable farmers to purchase a bag of fertiliser at a subsidised rate of N28,000, while the state government would pay the remaining N28,000 balance.

The governor said the initiative was part of his administration’s efforts to strengthen food security, boost agricultural productivity and improve the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
He disclosed that the 2026 exercise had been enhanced to meet the growing demand and support the expansion of cultivated farmlands across Benue.
Alia said the government would also provide improved seedlings, herbicides and other essential farm inputs to enable farmers to achieve higher yields and improve productivity.
He added that the distribution programme will be implemented across the state’s 23 local government areas to ensure equitable access for genuine farmers.
