A Magistrate Court sitting in Kano Municipality has remanded a housewife, Maryam Usman, over alleged murder and causing grievous bodily harm.
The defendant was arraigned by the prosecution counsel, Fatima Ahmad Tijjani, on a two-count charge of causing grievous bodily harm and murder.
According to the prosecution, Maryam allegedly poured hot water on her co-wife, Firdausi Musa, her two children, and her husband, Malam Saminu, at their residence in Jar-Kuka, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, barely two weeks after her marriage into the family.

The prosecution further told the court that the incident resulted in severe injuries, adding that one of the children later died while receiving treatment.
When the charges were read, the defendant remained silent, while the court did not take her plea on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter.
The prosecution counsel thereafter applied for an adjournment to enable the government to issue legal advice on the case.
Presiding Magistrate, Ibrahim Sarki Ibrahim, granted the application and ordered that the accused be remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings.
The case was adjourned to June 30 for mention.
