Person dies after falling from rocks at Muriwai

A person has died after reportedly falling from rocks into the water at Muriwai on Auckland's west coast.

Police said emergency services were called to Otakamiro Point about 1pm Saturday after reports someone had fallen from the rocks into the sea.

Surf Life Saving crews and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter responded.

The rescue helicopter located the person in the water a short time later, but they were dead. The body has been recovered.

Police are working to establish the circumstances of the incident.
