Uber has officially landed on the busy roads of Kathmandu from June 5, 2026. It has already created quite a hype in the ride-sharing scene with its soft launch last month. As we all know, the space is super competitive with big players playing: InDrive, Pathao, and Yango. And to compete with them, as well as several other apps, it’s not as easy as it seems for Uber. But what features does it have that can entice new users? Here in this article, we’ll talk about the top 5 features of Uber in Nepal.
✅Now that Uber has arrived in Nepal, let’s find whether its top features put it to the top ride sharing apps of Nepal.
Three Ride Categories
Uber has three ride categories to choose from: Uber Go, Bike, and Comfort. Uber Go is a standard low-cost taxi option in the app. It generally features compact cars, such as those from Suzuki, Hyundai, and Tata. The usual ones we say every day around us. As expected, it’s very decent for normal city rides and saving money, due to lower fares than the comfort taxi service. For faster commuting and less time spent in traffic, you can opt for the bike option. Lastly, the Comfort option gets you a more comfortable experience with AC and more legroom in a premium car.
Promo Offers
For the time being, Uber is offering promo codes on every ride you take, be it a taxi or a bike. You can get NPR 30 on the former and NPR 15 on the latter for the first 50 rides. But one thing to note, the discount is not valid for a comfort taxi ride. Additionally, you can check the validity dates, and therefore, it should be availed of during that time.
Ride Later & Ride for others
Another handy feature on Uber is the Ride Later feature. This option allows you to book a ride for a later time. So, during those busy hours, you can just do it prior to your ride time. This will ensure the rider’s availability for the time you need. The moment you are sure about your visit to somewhere, you can just add in the Uber for later time. Uber calls it as “Pickup Later”.
Likewise, you can also book a ride for others— friends, family, relatives, or your loved ones. They’ll get the ride details via Uber app, text, or WhatsApp. You can “Switch rider” and book for them.
Uber Cash
Uber also includes a Wallet section known as Uber Cash. This feature appears inside the app as a digital payment wallet, where users can view and manage their balance for ride payments. However, in Nepal, the cash top-up functionality is not fully active yet, and users currently cannot load money into the wallet through local digital payment systems. This means Uber Cash is still in an early or limited rollout phase in the country rather than a fully functional payment system.
Safety Features
Uber offers driver identity verification, real-time trip tracking, a “share trip” feature with friends and family, and emergency assistance features. This is especially significant for solo travelers and female tourists in Nepal. Under Nepal’s new Digital Mobility Service Operation Standard 2026, ride-hailing safety measures include mandatory CCTV systems in four-wheelers and GPS tracking for all rides. But the implementation is still in the initial phase.

Can Uber take the number one spot?
All these features we discussed above are pretty interesting. But as aforementioned, the ride-sharing scene in Nepal is super competitive. Yango and InDrive are topping the charts, thanks to the cheapest fare on the former and the bargaining feature on the latter. Meanwhile, Pathao is known as the safest platform, albeit its fares are the most expensive. Then we also have Nepali platforms like Sajilo, Tootle, Fab Cab, and others as well. So, Uber will have to keep on bringing enticing promo offers for both riders and passengers. As it’s a world-famous platform, staying relevant in the scene shouldn’t be more of an issue. Plus, tourists visiting this Himalayan country will also opt to use Uber, which is another plus point. However, it is currently only available in the Kathmandu Valley, with plans to expand to major cities later on. Whether it will top the charts, only time can tell.

Other Expected Features
There are a few additional features that could improve Uber’s usefulness in Nepal.
An SOS emergency button would add an extra layer of safety, allowing users to quickly get help if something goes wrong during a ride. It’s simple but very effective, especially in busy city areas.
Automatic payments through wallets or bank cards would also make the experience smoother by removing the need to handle cash after every trip.
Uber already uses a smart system that assigns the nearest driver within milliseconds. And with denser number of riders, this feature can come really handy.
A split fare feature would also be useful for group rides. It allows the app to automatically divide costs among passengers instead of handling payments manually.
