Anna Faris Says She Almost Died From Carbon Monoxide Poisoning After Renting a Vacation Home
Anna Faris is recalling a terrifying health scare.
The Scary Movie actress shared she and her family suffered carbon monoxide poisoning at a rental home during Thanksgiving in 2019, as well as how they survived.
"There was a lawsuit, so I can't get too specific," Faris said on the June 4 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, "but what I can say is that carbon monoxide is odorless and it is deadly."
As the House Bunny star—who married Michael Barrett in 2021—explained, she and her now-husband, along with a dozen other family members, had rented a house in Lake Tahoe, Calif., for the holidays 2019. In the home, they had "all the heat going" and the windows closed.
But the situation took a turn for the worse when she and her family, especially her dad, "weren't feeling great," with the Hot Chick star noting that they were suffering from headaches, drowsiness and sluggishness. As she added, they were feeling "the opposite of euphoria."
While Faris, 49, and her family initially chalked it up to "altitude sickness and being hungover," they "knew something was afoot."
Eventually, Faris' mom suggested her dad, who already suffered from underlying health issues, go to the hospital to get checked out.
"At the Lake Tahoe emergency room," the Overboard star recalled, "they had the wisdom to check his carbon monoxide levels in his blood."
"Next thing you know, my husband and I were passed out," she continued. "And we were being shook awake by firefighters. I have this hazy memory of being told how lucky I was by a firefighter. It was awful."
In the years since the incident, Faris—who shares 13-year-old son Jack with ex-husband Chris Pratt—said she and her family take precautions to make sure they never experience the horror again, sharing that they travel with a portable carbon monoxide detector.
Yet, Faris suggested that she still has concerns years later, pointing out that there aren't "a lot of [studies] on the long-term effects of carbon monoxide poisoning."

The Just Friends actress first detailed the accident in November 2019. At the time, she thanked first responders for saving her and her family.
"I'm not quite sure how to express gratitude to the north Lake Tahoe fire department," she wrote on X (then Twitter) at the time, alongside a photo of a dining table with Thanksgiving dishes on plates. "We were saved from carbon monoxide- it’s a stupidly dramatic story but I’m feeling very fortunate."
Following the incident, the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District said, per a press release, that Faris and her family were "lucky to be alive."
"We are so thankful to report that this holiday disaster was averted," North Tahoe Fire Chief Mike Schwartz said in a statement, per People. "Situational awareness is so important. Whether you are at home or traveling, it is important ensure that smoke and CO alarms are in working order anywhere you stay."
