Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stressed the importance of safeguarding the nation's wealth to ensure decent living standards and improve public welfare.
Speaking during a visit to Sekolah Rakyat Junior High School (SRMP) 17 in Tabanan, Bali, on Sunday, he said national development is aimed at ensuring all Indonesians can live decent and prosperous lives.
"Education, training for farmers, training for teachers, for nurses — we must improve education and training across all fields. This is a massive effort, and it requires funding," he said.
Prabowo added that governments and leaders must work hard to manage public funds responsibly and protect state assets.
"Therefore, the government and leaders must work hard. Money must be saved and protected. The nation's wealth must be safeguarded," he said.
He highlighted Indonesia's abundant natural resources, saying they must be managed properly to ensure they are used for the welfare of the people.
The president also emphasized the role of the tuition-free Sekolah Rakyat (People's School) program in providing education opportunities for children from economically vulnerable families.
Responding to a report from Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf that only one Sekolah Rakyat is currently operating in Bali, Prabowo called for the number of schools under the program to be increased.
"We must add more as quickly as possible. Regional heads should work on it, and if necessary, the central government will help provide the land," he said.
The government aims to establish at least one Sekolah Rakyat unit in every district and city across Bali.
During the visit, the president toured school facilities, interacted with students and their parents, and watched performances by several pupils.
