Prabowo seeks faster expansion of Sekolah Rakyat program

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said education is key to improving public welfare and called for a faster expansion of the Sekolah Rakyat (People's School) program to broaden access to quality education.

Speaking during a visit to Sekolah Rakyat Junior High School (SRMP) 17 in Tabanan, Bali, on Sunday, he stressed the need to strengthen education and training across sectors as part of efforts to improve the quality of human resources.

"Education can make people prosperous in all areas. Education, training for farmers, teachers, and nurses — we must improve education and training in all fields," Prabowo said, according to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat.

The president said improving education and training requires substantial resources and long-term commitment.

Therefore, he added, the government is committed to safeguarding and managing state wealth responsibly so that it can be used for the benefit of the people.

Prabowo also expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Sekolah Rakyat program, which aims to provide quality education for communities in need.

However, he acknowledged that demand for the program remains high.

"I am happy to see the progress of Sekolah Rakyat. Of course, the work is still very significant because there are so many people who need these schools," he said.

The president called for the accelerated development and expansion of Sekolah Rakyat across the country.

To support the effort, he urged regional governments, ministries, and state institutions to collaborate in finding creative solutions to increase education capacity, including by utilizing underused state facilities while permanent school buildings are being constructed.

The government is expanding the Sekolah Rakyat program as part of its commitment to widening access to education for disadvantaged communities.

Through the program, the government hopes more Indonesian children will have equal opportunities to obtain quality education and improve their families' living standards in the future.

Prabowo emphasized that education should not be viewed merely as a classroom activity but as a long-term investment in producing a generation capable of leading Indonesia toward progress, self-reliance, and equitable prosperity.
