MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — At least two local governments in Cebu are preparing assistance for earthquake victims in Mindanao.
Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro and Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival said they have already instructed their respective disaster response teams to coordinate with their counterparts in Mindanao to assess the affected communities’ needs and determine the appropriate aid to provide.
“In times like these, we are reminded that Filipinos are strongest when we stand together. Cebu stands ready to help our brothers and sisters in Mindanao,” Baricuatro said.
No damage in Cebu from Mindanao quake
As of this writing, both Baricuatro and Archival also reported that Cebu Province and Cebu City did not suffer any damage from the 7.8 quake that struck Mindanao on Monday morning.

Stay vigilant and informed
Initial reports indicated that at least one person was killed and several buildings collapsed following the powerful earthquake.
“This morning’s powerful earthquake, initially reported at magnitude 7.8 off the coast of Mindanao, reminds us all of the importance of preparedness and solidarity during times of natural disasters,” Archival said.
He also urged Cebuanos to remain calm, stay informed through official advisories, and continue preparing for potential emergencies.

For her part, Baricuatro called on Cebuanos to remain vigilant and prepared for possible aftershocks.
“Having experienced devastating earthquakes ourselves, we understand the fear, uncertainty, and challenges that communities face in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. We pray for the safety of all affected families, first responders, and local officials as they assess the situation and respond to the needs of their communities,” Baricuatro said.
