Italy's world number one Jannik Sinner was at Milan's San Raffaele hospital on Monday to do a series of checks following the physical meltdown on May 28 that saw him exit the French Open in the second round.
The 24-year-old lost 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 to Juan Manuel Cerundolo after caving in physically when he was on the verge of victory in the third set amid searing heat at Roland Garros.
Sinner arrived at the hospital early on Monday and is expected to leave in the evening.
After the match, which he had been one game from winning when he suffered his meltdown, the South Tyrolean four-time slam winner did not blame the heat but said he had simply run out of energy.
Sinner had been odds-on to win his first Roland Garros and take his major tally to five after his great rival, Spanish 22-year-old seven-time slam winner Carlos Alcaraz, pulled out of the French Open and Wimbledon with a wrist injury. Last year's final, in which Sinner had three match points before losing a five-set epic to the Spanish ace, was one of the best ever in Paris.
Barring physical issues, Sinner is now favourite for Wimbledon which runs from June 29 to July 12.
German world number three Alexander Zverev, 29, bagged his first French title after three slam final losses Sunday beating Italy's Flavio Cobolli in five sets. Roman Cobolli, 24, rose to world number 10 following his run to the Roland-Garros final.
