Bright International School – Algarve has been recognised as the Most Innovative International School in Europe 2026 by K12 Digest, highlighting Bright’s commitment to reimagining education by placing curiosity, creativity, and belonging at the centre of the student experience.
Since joining the Sharing Education Group and operating under its new identity in 2024, Bright has challenged traditional educational models in the Algarve, introducing a fresh approach centred on inquiry-based learning, wellbeing, innovative learning environments, and the development of future-ready skills, attracting families from Portugal and around the world.
Located in the heart of the Algarve, in Loulé, Bright follows the Cambridge International curriculum while delivering learning through a highly student-centred approach. Lessons are designed to encourage exploration, collaboration, critical thinking, and real-world application rather than passive memorisation.
“This recognition is a reflection of our incredible students, dedicated staff, and supportive families,” said Tom Caston, Head of School. “At Bright, we believe that excellence should never be about pressure or comparison. Instead, we focus on creating an environment where children feel curious, confident, and excited to learn. Our aim is to help every student discover their strengths and create their own future.”
A defining feature of the school is its innovative campus, designed by internationally renowned Danish educational designer Rosan Bosch. The learning spaces move beyond traditional classroom layouts, encouraging movement, collaboration, independence, and creativity. The environment has been carefully developed to support how children naturally learn and interact.
The award also recognises Bright’s commitment to experiential learning. One example is the school’s participation in the EVIE (Electric Vehicles in Education) initiative, making it one of only three schools in Portugal selected for the programme. Through the project, students are designing, building, branding, and marketing an electric vehicle racing team, developing skills in engineering, entrepreneurship, teamwork, and innovation.
Beyond academics, Bright places significant emphasis on wellbeing, community, and character development. Through a wide range of extracurricular activities, leadership opportunities, and community events, students are encouraged to build confidence, resilience, and meaningful relationships.
The recognition comes during a period of continued growth for the school, including the addition of a new sports field, a world-class science laboratory, expanded performing arts opportunities, and the planned introduction of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme.
As Bright International School continues to grow, it remains guided by its core mission: Empowering a Bright Future in a Joyful Learning Ecosystem.
