Local officials in Monte Gordo have unveiled the coastal town’s new-look health centre, which has been renovated and expanded.
The project has doubled the number of medical consultation rooms from two to four and increased nursing consultation rooms from two to three, allowing the health centre to improve its ability to respond to patient demand, the municipal council of Vila Real de Santo António says in a statement.
The works also included the installation of a new air-conditioning system and the refurbishment of common areas, creating a more comfortable and functional environment for both patients and staff.
The upgraded facility was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, June 2 during a ceremony attended by members of the municipal executive, representatives of the USF Levante family health unit, local parish officials and healthcare professionals.
The €213,000 project – which was supported by Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) to the tune of nearly €192,000 – aimed to adapt the health centre to the “current demands of primary health care services, creating better conditions and preparing it to respond more effectively to the needs of the population”.
The expanded premises will also strengthen the centre’s role in medical training, providing additional capacity to host Family Medicine interns and nursing students. Officials say this will contribute to the development of future healthcare professionals while supporting the continuous improvement of services.
