Savannah Guthrie Vows to "Never Stop Looking" For Mom Nancy Guthrie in Mother's Day Message
Savannah Guthrie is doing her best.
Four months after the Today anchor’s mom Nancy Guthrie was reported missing, she shared a heartbreaking update on how she’s been coping since returning to Studio 1A.
"It’s always with me," Savannah said during the June 8 episode of Today with Jenna and Sheinelle. "I cry every morning on the way to work, and I cry every morning on the way home. And I’m grateful to have good friends and to be able to come to such a beautiful and joyous and supportive place.”
“Like so many people out there, you can hold all of these things together,” she added. “I try to tell my kids that, too. We can hold our sadness and we can hold our joy. And if you don’t believe it, just watch me. I’m gonna show you."
Nancy was reported missing in February after authorities say she was abducted from her Tucson, Ariz., home. Though the case remains open, Savannah—mom to kids Vale, 11, and Charles, 9, with husband Michael Feldman—returned to work April 6, which she described as a "little respite" in her day.
While her grief doesn’t dissipate when the Today cameras start rolling, having colleagues like Jenna Bush Hager has added some light to her dark chapter.
"First of all, I can’t really even look at you every day without crying," Savannah told Jenna through tears. "You are my best friend. You know, it’s really hard to come back. I’ve been trying so hard to hold it together, and I promise I will."

"When I see you in the morning, I know that you see me, no matter what is going on," Savannah added. "And sometimes that's almost too much because I feel like to do the job I gotta keep it together, pull it together.”
That said, the 54-year-old knows returning the work was the best choice for her.
“But I’m happy to be back,” she explained. “It’s like the two hours of my day that—it’s not that I’m not thinking about it, because I am, but it’s something to do and it brings me a lot of joy to be with everybody. But, no, it’s not easy."
"I know maybe people wonder, ‘Whoa, what’s going on? How’s she able to do that job? Is she not thinking about it? Did she forget?’” she continued. “No, never.”
As for her mother's case, Savannah reiterated, "We still need everybody’s prayers. I wish someone would call and say what they know and tell the truth."
