Qormi is about to get a serious upgrade in its weekly grocery run.
Lidl Malta has officially confirmed that its newest store will be opening this June and it’s not just another supermarket launch, it’s a sign of continued expansion, job creation and a growing footprint across the island.
More jobs, more growth
With over 550 employees already on its books in Malta, Lidl’s expansion continues to be a steady source of employment on the island. Each new store typically brings with it more than 30 new jobs, meaning the Qormi branch is set to open doors not just for shoppers, but for jobseekers too.
It’s part of a bigger story too. Lidl has grown from just 3 outlets in 2008 to 12 stores in 2026, showing a long-term commitment to the Maltese market that hasn’t slowed down.
Supporting local producers
One of the quieter but more impactful parts of Lidl’s growth has been its relationship with local suppliers. The company now works with over 30 Maltese producers, meaning more locally-made products are making their way onto supermarket shelves across the island.
That means your weekly shop isn’t just convenient, it’s also helping support the local economy.
Giving back to the community
Beyond business growth, Lidl has also been leaning into social responsibility. Through its ‘Feed It Back’ programme launched in 2024, the company has donated around 55 tonnes of food so far, the equivalent of nearly 182,000 meals.
It’s also active in collaborations with the Food Bank and other community initiatives, tying its expansion to broader social impact.
A pretty big store, too
And if you’re wondering just how big the new Qormi store will be, it’s not small.
We’re talking a total footprint of around 7,000 square metres, including a 1,500 square metre sales area and roughly 500 metres of shelving. Translation: expect plenty of space, plenty of stock and (hopefully) fewer queues.
So whether you’re in it for the weekly shop, a new job opportunity or just curious to see what 7,000 square metres of Lidl looks like, Qormi’s newest addition is shaping up to be a pretty big deal.
