A public swimming centre on Auckland's North Shore has closed its doors temporarily after a "serious security incident".
The Glenfield Pool and Leisure Centre announced on Saturday that it needed to close its main pool, dive well pool and surrounding area, after they were contaminated by broken glass.
The New Zealand Herald reported that a glass fire exit door had been deliberately smashed.
The centre's Facebook post said the pools would be closed until at least 15 June while the pool's were being "drained, cleaned, refilled, and reheated."
"We understand this disruption may be frustrating and appreciate your patience while we complete the necessary work to safely reopen these areas."
On Tuesday, however, a follow-up post said a planned shutdown of the centre's entire aquatic area had been brought forward to today.
"Following the recent security incident, and with the Main Pool and Dive Well already closed, we have made the decision to bring forward our scheduled Aquatics Shutdown.
"This will allow us to complete the required work and planned maintenance during one closure period, minimizing [sic] future disruption for our members."
It said the aquatics area was scheduled to reopen on 25 June. Its gym would also close for a day on 18 June.
