Malta women’s national football team suffered a 3-0 defeat against Türkiye women’s national football team in their 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Malta fell behind early after Alexandra Gatt accidentally turned the ball into her own net in the seventh minute, giving Türkiye an immediate advantage.
The home side continued applying pressure throughout the first half and doubled their lead in the 38th minute through Ece Türkoğlu.
Türkiye sealed the result shortly after the restart when Selen Gül Altunkulak found the net in the 52nd minute.
Despite showing moments of resilience, Malta struggled to contain Türkiye’s attacking tempo and created limited clear-cut chances during the match.
Coach Manuela Tesse introduced several substitutions in the second half in an attempt to change the momentum, but Malta were unable to reduce the deficit.
The result leaves Malta looking to bounce back in their upcoming World Cup qualifying fixtures.
