CEBU CITY, Philippines — Three Filipino women’s teams powered their way into the quarterfinals of the Cebu Hustle 3×3: The Inaugural Women’s International Basketball Tournament on Saturday, June 20, at the SM Seaside City Cebu Mountain Wing Atrium.
The Pilipinas Aguilas, Gilas Pilipinas Under-23, and Uratex Dream all delivered strong group-stage performances to secure spots in the knockout round of the fast-paced international competition.
Arguably the most high-profile squad in the field, the Pilipinas Aguilas—composed of members of the Gilas women’s national team, including recently naturalized American NCAA Division I player Elizabeth Means and Filipina-American Camille Malagar—lived up to expectations with two close victories.
They opened their campaign with a gritty 12-10 win over Jumpshot Singapore, with Means earning Player of the Game honors.

Malagar, who drew strong support from her family in Cebu City, also played a key role in the tight opener. The Aguilas followed it up with another nail-biter, edging Thailand’s Shoot It Dragons, 12-10, to complete a perfect group-stage run.
Gilas Pilipinas impresses
The Gilas Pilipinas Under-23 squad also impressed, starting with a dominant 21-3 win over host side UP Cebu before surviving a tougher test against Malaysia’s EST Jersey, 14-12. Jam Meniano and Amyah Espanol led the charge across both outings.
Uratex Dream completed the trio of qualifiers after a hard-earned start and a commanding finish. They opened with a 15-13 overtime win against Japan’s Maurice Lacroix before cruising past Thailand’s CT Tigers, 21-13, to top their group.
With the knockout stage set, matchups are still to be finalized. The Pilipinas Aguilas will face the winner between Tol Patriots and UP Cebu, while Gilas U23 awaits either Jumpshot Singapore or CT Tigers. Uratex Dream will take on the winner of Move Liloan and EST Jersey.
