Biz groups extend cash aid, relief supplies to quake-hit Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines – Big businesses, including those under the Razon Group, have launched emergency relief operations for Filipinos affected by the massive earthquake that hit Mindanao early this week.

Companies under the business of tycoon Enrique Razon Jr.—led by Prime Electric, International Container Terminal Services Inc., and Manila Water—have provided cash assistance and essential relief supplies to local government units in Sarangani, South Cotabato, and General Santos City.

Fuel supply for generator sets was immediately deployed to restore critical services, while Prime Electric provided solar lamps and industrial fans.

Bottled water, rice, canned goods, and other essential supplies were also distributed to displaced families.

Manila Water also mobilized one of its mobile water treatment plants.

“The relief efforts underscore the private sector’s commitment to complementing government disaster response, particularly during large-scale emergencies that require swift, coordinated action,” it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) also gave relief assistance for affected communities in General Santos City, Sarangani, and nearby areas.

It includes the distribution of food packs, bottled water, drinking water and solar lanterns.

Meralco said it was working closely with local leaders to ensure that the help would reach hospitals, evacuation areas, and communities. /pai INQ
