Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office is preparing to introduce a new online platform that will allow vehicle owners to report and track lost vehicles more efficiently.
The system is expected to be brought into operation in the new fiscal year, replacing an earlier online mechanism that was launched in 2020 but failed to gain widespread use.
The previous system enabled users to submit applications online and track their status using an application number, name and vehicle registration number. However, according to the Traffic Police Office, the platform was not fully interactive and gradually became inactive.
Police Inspector Dipendra Prasad Sah of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office said the earlier system functioned largely as an internal administrative tool rather than a user-focused service.
“In the old system, police personnel had to enter the details themselves and provide users with a tracking number. Since the public could not directly register information about lost vehicles and receive immediate verification, the system was not very effective,” Sah said.
The new platform is being designed as a fully interactive system that will allow vehicle owners to enter details of their lost vehicles directly online. Traffic police will then verify the information through the system.
According to Sah, applications containing errors will not be automatically rejected. Instead, users will receive notifications identifying the specific issues that need to be corrected before resubmission.
The Traffic Police Office believes the new system will simplify the process of reporting lost vehicles and enable users to receive timely updates on search and recovery efforts.
Officials said development work is underway, with plans to fully roll out the platform by August.
