Barnaby Joyce says it would be 'odd' to have seat carve-up deal with Liberals
By Joshua Boscaini
One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce hasn't said how his party will use nearly $4 million in donations given to the party in a fundraising drive.
The party launched the drive in response to a Labor fundraising campaign targeting the right-wing minor party.
Asked on ABC Radio National Breakfast how the money will be used, Joyce doesn't provide any details.
Last week, Liberal frontbencher Tony Pasin proposed carving up seats between One Nation and the Liberals for the next election.
So is it something One Nation would be keen on? The One Nation MP says it would be odd to leave supporters without a candidate to vote for.
"It would be a little bit odd for the One Nation supporters in an area to not have a One Nation candidate. That is, they will have a One Nation candidate," Joyce says.
"Preference deals happen between all parties, but preference deals do not promote a coalition."

Daniel Mulino says One Nation's rise was happening before federal budget
By Joshua Boscaini
Assistant Treasurer Daniel Mulino says One Nation's rise in the polls was happening well before May's federal budget.
A Sydney Morning Herald/The Age Resolve poll says One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson has overtaken Anthony Albanese as preferred PM.
Speaking to ABC Radio National Breakfast, Mulino says the right-wing party's rise can be attributed to frustration with the system and cost-of-living pressures.
Asked if the government needs to take responsibility for One Nation's rise in the polls, Mulino says the party's rise in the polls was occurring before the budget.
"What I'd say about One Nation is that they are very good at identifying grievances, they're not very good at solutions," Mulino says.
"In fact, Pauline Hanson's voting record over recent years has often been to the detriment of people seeking pay rises, to the detriment of workers' rights and so that's something which, as that comes to light more, I think people will judge that in due course."

US-Iran peace deal 'sounds positive', assistant minister says
By Joshua Boscaini
In breaking news, US President Donald Trump has confirmed the United States and Iran have reached a peace deal to cease hostilities.
For the first (and immediate) government reaction this morning, Assistant Treasurer Daniel Mulino says while he hasn't seen the details, it sounds "positive".
"We've been wanting a deal to happen over the last few months, and we've been wanting to see a peaceful resolution and the reopening of the Straits of Hormuz," Mulino says.
"I don't have any of the details at hand yet, but it sounds positive."

Pat Conroy says govt still consulting with start-ups on budget changes
By Joshua Boscaini
A two-day Senate inquiry into the federal government's budget measures will kick off today.
Labor introduced a sweeping overhaul of the capital gains tax, negative gearing and trusts in May's budget, which has attracted fierce criticism from the business and start-up sector.
It included replacing the capital gains discount with a discount based on inflation and minimum 30 per cent tax, and limiting negative gearing to new builds.
The Australian reports the business sector has put forward a number of compromises to the government, including one to average capital gains over multiple income years.
Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy says the federal government is still consulting with the start-up sector.
"We've been really clear that we're talking with start-ups, those sort of companies where we've been very open that we will be looking at their circumstances," Conroy says.

'It doesn't worry me': Joyce brushes aside reports Hanson wants daughter to lead party
By Joshua Boscaini
Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek and One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce have popped up for their regular spot on Channel Seven.
A Sydney Morning Herald/The Age Resolve poll says One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson has overtaken Anthony Albanese as preferred PM.
Plibersek says she thinks people are frustrated and that the government has to demonstrate "things are changing".
"We've got to demonstrate that things are changing and that takes a while. We've just got to keep working to make sure that that those tax cuts that we want to deliver right now get to people," Plibersek says.
Hanson has reportedly left the door open for her daughter, Lee Hanson, to eventually lead the right-wing party.
Asked where that leaves Joyce, who defected from the Nationals to One Nation last year, he says it doesn't worry him.
"It doesn't worry me. Honestly, I'm here for the philosophical change for Australia to try and get us back on track, to try and make sure we become as strong as powerful as quickly as possible," Joyce says.
