Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto personally welcomed German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, marking efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Steinmeier arrived at the palace complex at around 11:30 a.m. local time in a motorcade escorted by 17 motorcycle guards and 80 cavalry troops.
After stepping out of his vehicle, the German leader was welcomed by Prabowo. The two presidents shook hands and exchanged greetings before watching a traditional dance performance.
They then proceeded into the palace, where the national anthems of Indonesia and Germany were played.
Thereafter, Prabowo and Steinmeier later inspected the honor guard, followed by introduction of their respective delegations.
Prabowo introduced Steinmeier to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani, as well as Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.
Also present were Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Following the reception ceremony, the two presidents held a one-on-one meeting in Prabowo’s office. The meeting was expected to pave the way for Indonesia and Germany to expand cooperation across various sectors.
Reports indicated that the Jakarta bilateral talks were focused on strengthening partnerships in business, energy, climate action, cultural affairs, and skilled worker recruitment.
The two sides also sought to reaffirm their shared commitment to democracy, a rules-based international order, and stronger multilateralism in the Indo-Pacific region.
Steinmeier arrived in Jakarta earlier on Monday at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, where he was welcomed by Health Minister Sadikin, Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Abdul Kadir Jailani, and German Ambassador to Indonesia Ralf Beste.
Beyond the palace meeting, the Steinmeier was scheduled to visit Istiqlal Mosque and Jakarta Cathedral before attending a discussion with Indonesian intellectuals and researchers to exchange views on Germany’s role in global affairs.
