MANILA, Philippines — Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island generated a total of 15 ash emission events since Monday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
In an advisory, state seismologists said one of the latest ash emission events occurred at 8:58 a.m. on Tuesday.
“This event generated grayish plumes that rose 500 meters above the crater before drifting southwest,” Phivolcs said in its post.

The agency reported that the ash emissions recorded since June 15 generated plumes ranging from 100 to 500 meters high, with prevailing winds carrying volcanic material toward the general southwest.
Phivolcs’ 24-hour monitoring report also documented 18 volcanic earthquakes, including 11 volcanic tremors lasting three to 101 minutes long.
Phivolcs said Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano.
The agency advised the public to avoid entering the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone and urged aviation authorities to keep aircraft away from the volcano’s summit area. /das
